NOT TO BE MISSED View
La Paz is the capital of the state of Baja California Sur, located on the coast of the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California). It is a quiet, welcoming city with authentic charm, very different from more touristy destinations such as Cabo San Lucas.
La Paz is one of the best bases in Mexico for marine ecotourism:
- Isla Espíritu Santo 🏝️ – A UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its crystal-clear waters, rock formations and a colony of sea lions that you can swim with.
- Grey whale watching 🐋 – Between January and March, you can see whales giving birth in nearby lagoons, such as Magdalena Bay.
- Whale sharks 🦈 – From October to March, these gentle giants, up to 12 metres long, can be seen in the waters off the city.
- Paradise beaches such as Balandra (one of the most beautiful in Mexico, protected for its ecosystem) and Playa Tecolote.
