Matthew Burns
Captain

Nation: American

Captain Matthew Burns - Matt hails from Saint Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. As a French West Indian, farming and fishing has been a large part of life since birth. Matt started working on the water at 12, working the decks onboard his cousins' commercial fishing boat whenever possible. By 16 he was running the deck of the commercial boats alone. He would fill in as the mate for any boat in the fleet as needed just to get out on the water more. At 22 Matt started running day charters in the US and British Virgin Islands. At 25 he moved to Los Angeles, CA and immediately started running larger multi-passenger vessels for fishing and booze cruises. Shortly after, he found his way into Yachting and has now been a Yacht charter captain for 8 years.

Mate Jackson Bowman – Born in Acworth, GA, Jackson grew up playing basketball and baseball, fostering a strong work ethic and team mindset. With a background in hospitality and physical labor, he thrives in hands-on roles and delivering great guest experiences. After a year of backpacking through Southeast Asia, he moved to Florida to pursue a yachting career, combining his love for travel, the outdoors, and life on the water. Dedicated and hardworking! Jackson is passionate about maintaining vessels, assisting guests and ensuring unforgettable experiences at sea.

Chief Stewardess Stevi Gregorios – Stevi is from Long Beach, CA. Growing up a swimmer, she has always been attracted to the ocean. This lead her to the University of Hawaii, where she studied broadcast journalism and swam competitively. She also worked in several client facing roles in the hospitality industry; serving, bartending, and catering for 5 years. Upon her return to California is when her yachting career began. She worked high end charters in Marina Del Rey before diving into a full-time, live aboard position in 2018. Since then, she has had successful seasons in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Northeast & the Bahamas.
Being Chief Stewardess has taught her to lead by example, be flexible, and always expect the unexpected! Her competitive drive and passion to please others means she puts her heart into every trip. Whether it be for the new charter guest or the owners who have been onboard countless times, her goal remains the same… to give the guests the best experience possible with memories that will last a lifetime.

Deckhand/Stewardess –Emily Markham – Born and raised in Kennesaw, GA, Emily brings a background in cosmetology, bartending and customer service. After leaving her hairdressing career to backpack through Southeast Asia, she discovered the industry through friends and never looked back. With a passion for hospitality, a keen eye for detail, and a love for fast-paced environments, she thrives on creating exceptional guest experiences. Always eager to challenge herself, she is dedicated to delivering seamless service and unforgettable moments onboard.

Chef Eli Pomerantz – Eli was born and raised in rural foothills of the Appalachian Mountains outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In his youth, he spent all his time outdoors or playing competitive lacrosse and wrestling. He began working in the culinary arts at just 15 while he was still just in 10th grade. His first job was in a fish market outside of Philadelphia where he learned to steam blue crabs and butcher whole fresh fish. After high school, Eli moved to Boston to attend Northeastern University where he studied Mechanical Engineering. To fund this endeavor Eli worked at some of Boston’s top restaurants after class. Upon finishing school, Eli worked in his educational field for just three months before receiving a job offer to run a restaurant in Cape Cod. He never looked back and has since worked as a chef in New York City and Philadelphia. Over the past 6 years Eli has traveled the world as a yacht chef on a variety of vessels. He specializes in cooking different cuisines from across the globe. You may even see him jump in the water with a spear to catch your lunch himself.

Questions & Answers

How does the charter contract work?

The contract is signed directly between the Owner and the Charterer, with the support of the broker. It is usually based on the international MYBA contract model, designed to ensure clear and balanced protection for both parties.
There is also the figure of the Stakeholder, responsible for safely holding the funds until the end of the charter.

What is included in the charter fee?

The base rate includes the rental of the yacht, the use of all onboard equipment, the presence of the crew, and the related insurance coverage.
Operational expenses such as fuel, provisioning, marina fees, beverages, and additional activities are not included and are managed through the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance).

The exact list of what is included or excluded will be confirmed when selecting the yacht.

What is the APA and how does it work?

The APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance) is an advance fund, usually equal to 25–35% of the charter fee, allocated to cover operational expenses such as fuel, provisioning, marina fees, paid activities, beverages, and the guests’ personalized requests.

At the end of the cruise, the Captain provides a detailed breakdown of all expenditures. Any unused amount is refunded to the client, while any overages are settled directly upon closing the charter.

What are the payment terms?

Upon signing the contract, a payment of 50% of the total amount is required.
The balance — including APA, taxes, and any additional charges — is typically due around five weeks before embarkation (depending on the owner).
Payments are made via bank transfer, which is the standard method in the luxury charter industry.

Can I cancel a booking?

Yes, cancellations are possible, but the contractual terms apply.
In general, if the client decides to withdraw, the Owner retains the deposits already paid.

If the yacht is rebooked for the same period, the Owner refunds the amount recovered, minus the applicable commissions.

Every cancellation request is handled with full transparency.
Further details on the applicable policies are available upon direct request.

How can I choose the yacht that best suits my needs?

The choice depends primarily on the type of experience you wish to enjoy:

  • Motor yacht for maximum comfort, excellent stability, and fast transfers.

  • Sailing yacht for an authentic, quiet experience rooted in traditional navigation.

  • Catamaran for generous spaces, superior stability, and enhanced privacy.

BeBlue evaluates the destination, number of guests, personal preferences, and budget to select the most suitable option for you.

How far in advance should I book?

For peak season (Mediterranean: June–September; Caribbean: December–April), it is advisable to book several months in advance to secure the best available options.
We can also handle last-minute requests, depending on availability and licensing requirements.

Is it possible to personalise menus, preferences, and activities?

Absolutely. Before departure, you will receive a Preference Sheet where you can indicate your tastes, dietary needs, allergies, beverage preferences, and the activities you wish to enjoy.
The Chef and the Captain will use this information to create a fully customised experience for you.

How many guests can be accommodated on board?

Most yachts can host 6 to 12 guests, depending on their interior layout.
Some superyachts over 80 metres, compliant with international certifications, can accommodate up to 36 guests.

Will I have Internet access during the charter?

Most yachts offer Wi-Fi on board, provided through mobile networks or satellite systems. The quality and speed of the connection may vary depending on the cruising area and the technology installed.

Is tipping the crew expected?

Tipping is not mandatory, but it is a well-established custom to show appreciation for the crew’s service.
International guidelines suggest an amount equal to 10–15% of the base charter fee as a reference.
