Robert Marx
Captain

Nation: South African

Robert Marx - Captain

Robert, a farm boy from South Africa, had to learn early on how to fix things and to be innovative when you can’t find parts for machinery or equipment. After helping his dad on the farm for several years, he joined a Construction company where he traveled all over the Eastern Cape of SA, managing new building sites.

In 2006 he joined the yachting industry and spent his first year as the Chief Engineer on the 164ft M/Y Chantel Ma Vie. When the opportunity arose for him to work with his wife, they joined M/Y El Jefe where he started as Mate/Engineer before becoming the Captain onboard in 2009. He has since completed a ton of successful charters as Captain and has cruised all over the Caribbean, Bahamas and up and down the US East Coast.

In 2022 Robert and his wife joined M/Y Unbridled and he is ready to take guests on the adventure of a lifetime. His meticulous attitude ensures all systems are running smoothly and are well maintained for a safe and carefree vacation. His easy-going nature will make you feel comfortable from the moment you step onboard. He likes to make people laugh and keep guests active and entertained. When not navigating the crystal-clear waters off some tropical island, Robert enjoys motor sports, fishing, camping and watching documentaries.

Daphne Marx - Chief Stewardess

Daphne was born in South Africa’s windy city, Port Elizabeth. She always dreamed of being on big boats and wanted to explore the world. After college, she started working in the construction industry as a property and project manager, but eventually, the call of the ocean won and Daphne, along with her husband, decided to quit their land base jobs and started a new adventure.

For the past 14+ years, she has worked on yachts ranging from 107ft to 200ft, where her calm demeanor and can-do attitude made her a favorite amongst owners, guests, and crew. Professional, personable and caring best describes Daphne. With her background in Property Management and her experience in service, she has a great eye for detail and is adept at being invisible when necessary, yet appearing at just the right moment to ensure everything runs smoothly. Daphne’s passion for her job makes her the perfect hostess, always on hand to anticipate guests' needs.

When Daphne is not planning a theme night or making cocktails, she loves to do photography while exploring new places. She also loves camping and hiking, or relaxing with a good book or movie.

D’Andre Hepburn - Chef

Born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas, D’Andre began his culinary journey, at his mother's side, cultivating a love for the culinary arts. His formal training at Monroe College in New York marked the beginning of a distinguished career, working alongside some of the world's most renowned chefs. Notably, his time working under the mentorship of world-renowned Michelin Star chef, Daniel Boulud in New York, played a pivotal role in shaping and molding his career.

His artistic flair and infectious passion for food have taken him across the globe, showcasing his unique style. In the last seven years, D’Andre has taken his culinary expertise to the high seas, working as a private chef on various Motor Yachts. This experience has allowed him to travel the world, immersing himself in different food cultures. His ultimate vision is to create an enriching atmosphere for his team, fostering both enjoyment in their work and continuous improvement in his own culinary knowledge.

When chef Dee is not fattening up charter guests and crew, he loves exploring the great outdoors and enjoys fishing.

Nicholas Frost - Mate/Dive Master

Growing up in South Africa was a lot of fun and being surrounded by the ocean, mountains and vineyards was amazing, but Nick wanted to travel, explore new things and meet new people. Nick’s first introduction to world of big ships and yachts started when he worked on cruise liners as a pastry chef. After 2 years he decided to accept a position as restaurant manager. It did not take long for him to realized that even though he loved hospitality, he needed to be on the water and not be stuck in an office.

In 2018 Nick made the move to yachts and has since come to the conclusion that yachting is the best job in the world and that there is nothing that can beat it. Once he settled in his first position onboard, he took up diving which he enjoyed so much, that he eventually completed almost all the dive courses he could find and 2022 obtain his Dive Master’s Certification.

Nick also hold his Yacht Master 200t Off-shore and OOW certification and his goal is to complete his 3000 ton Masters ticket. Nick’s love for the ocean easily shows when he talks about diving, surfing or other water sport activities. He loves to teach guests how to use all the toys and how to do backflips off the big boat.

His spontaneous and friendly personality makes him the perfect crew member to help both kids and adults have endless fun. After work Nick loves to go running, enjoy hiking or to do any other activities that can bring him closer to nature.

Johane' Naude - Deck/Stew

Johane’s (Jo) love for travel began at a very young age, as her family moved all around South Africa. During one of those moves, her family settled in the picturesque and windy city of Port Elizabeth. It is here that Jo developed a deep affection for the ocean and all it has to offer.

Jo spend all her holidays on her grandparents guest farm where she quickly learned all the insand-outs of hospitality. After relocation to the fast-paced city life of Pretoria, completing high school and working two years in the medical field, Jo still longed to return to the coast and eventually found her way back to the ocean through yachting. With her bubbly personality and natural flair for hospitality, she was able to merge it with her passion for the ocean, which was perfect to start her new career in yachting.

Since joining the industry she has worked as Deck/Stew on both private and charter yachts, always striving to give guests the best possible experience onboard, while helping guests create lasting memories in some of the most beautiful locations..

When Jo is not mixing cocktails or assisting with water toys, she loves to explore new destinations and meeting new people. A devoted Formula 1 fan, she dreams of becoming a F1 driver, but for now she will settle for driving the tender and enjoying the ride.

Questions & Answers

How does the charter contract work?

The contract is signed directly between the Owner and the Charterer, with the support of the broker. It is usually based on the international MYBA contract model, designed to ensure clear and balanced protection for both parties.
There is also the figure of the Stakeholder, responsible for safely holding the funds until the end of the charter.

What is included in the charter fee?

The base rate includes the rental of the yacht, the use of all onboard equipment, the presence of the crew, and the related insurance coverage.
Operational expenses such as fuel, provisioning, marina fees, beverages, and additional activities are not included and are managed through the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance).

The exact list of what is included or excluded will be confirmed when selecting the yacht.

What is the APA and how does it work?

The APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance) is an advance fund, usually equal to 25–35% of the charter fee, allocated to cover operational expenses such as fuel, provisioning, marina fees, paid activities, beverages, and the guests’ personalized requests.

At the end of the cruise, the Captain provides a detailed breakdown of all expenditures. Any unused amount is refunded to the client, while any overages are settled directly upon closing the charter.

What are the payment terms?

Upon signing the contract, a payment of 50% of the total amount is required.
The balance — including APA, taxes, and any additional charges — is typically due around five weeks before embarkation (depending on the owner).
Payments are made via bank transfer, which is the standard method in the luxury charter industry.

Can I cancel a booking?

Yes, cancellations are possible, but the contractual terms apply.
In general, if the client decides to withdraw, the Owner retains the deposits already paid.

If the yacht is rebooked for the same period, the Owner refunds the amount recovered, minus the applicable commissions.

Every cancellation request is handled with full transparency.
Further details on the applicable policies are available upon direct request.

How can I choose the yacht that best suits my needs?

The choice depends primarily on the type of experience you wish to enjoy:

  • Motor yacht for maximum comfort, excellent stability, and fast transfers.

  • Sailing yacht for an authentic, quiet experience rooted in traditional navigation.

  • Catamaran for generous spaces, superior stability, and enhanced privacy.

BeBlue evaluates the destination, number of guests, personal preferences, and budget to select the most suitable option for you.

How far in advance should I book?

For peak season (Mediterranean: June–September; Caribbean: December–April), it is advisable to book several months in advance to secure the best available options.
We can also handle last-minute requests, depending on availability and licensing requirements.

Is it possible to personalise menus, preferences, and activities?

Absolutely. Before departure, you will receive a Preference Sheet where you can indicate your tastes, dietary needs, allergies, beverage preferences, and the activities you wish to enjoy.
The Chef and the Captain will use this information to create a fully customised experience for you.

How many guests can be accommodated on board?

Most yachts can host 6 to 12 guests, depending on their interior layout.
Some superyachts over 80 metres, compliant with international certifications, can accommodate up to 36 guests.

Will I have Internet access during the charter?

Most yachts offer Wi-Fi on board, provided through mobile networks or satellite systems. The quality and speed of the connection may vary depending on the cruising area and the technology installed.

Is tipping the crew expected?

Tipping is not mandatory, but it is a well-established custom to show appreciation for the crew’s service.
International guidelines suggest an amount equal to 10–15% of the base charter fee as a reference.
