This is an example itinerary suggested by the BeBlue skippers who are experts in the navigation area. The route can be planned on the needs of the group before departure or during navigation.
Check-in available in the afternoon at the Charter offices in the Embarkation Marina. After finishing the quick procedures of taking over the boat (technical check-in) and boarding the galley, you can enjoy an aperitif and dinner near the Marina or alternatively set sail immediately and enjoy the first sailing.
On your second day you will reach Westport. The town offers many activities and is full of shops and services. Nature lovers will enjoy a walk (and a magnificent view of the bay) in the Foley Mountain conservation area. For something more relaxing, you can spend the afternoon on a Muskoka red chair, book a kayak and take a tour around the harbour or go cycling at the public beach in Westport. You can also sample local craft beer and enjoy a wine tasting at the renowned Scheuermann Winery, just a 20-minute walk or 8-minute bike ride from the moorings.
For the third day, we sail to Newboro, a small provincial town. There is not much to do here, but it is worth stopping even if only to visit the 1930s-style shopping mall called Kilborn's on the Rideau: a fantastic, unique and eclectic shopping experience located in the heart of Newboro's old town. You can easily spend a few hours browsing the shops - happy shopping!
We set off from the Davis lock, where we recommend a tour of the museum, and drop anchor by early afternoon. A few steps from the anchorage, we come across a large dam called 'The Whispering Dam'. When you stand at a vantage point near the top, you can hear the voice of someone standing on a platform at the opposite end, about 100 metres away. The rest of the evening is spent visiting the Jones Falls locks, which are true gems that many consider the most beautiful series on the canal. It is a series of four historic locks, surrounded by beautiful hiking trails and parks. Visit the Lockmaster's House, which was designed to be defensible from attack and carefully restored in 19th century style. Then, head to the Lockmaster's Workshop, located on the banks of the basin between the first and second locks, where a blacksmith is often on duty and will be happy to answer questions and explain his trade to you.
The morning is dedicated to a hike to Rock Dunder and, at discretion, a picnic surrounded by the natural beauty of the Reserve. Back at the boat, we resume our course towards Newboro.
Shortly before lunch we arrive at Colonel By Island. Here is the ideal place to observe nature and enjoy the tranquillity of the great outdoors. The island is the largest in a series known as 'Long Island'. Here you will find a flat-roofed building called Wag's Lodge, built in the 1950s. Before lunch, walk along the 1 km nature trail and observe the incredible flora and fauna that the Rideau Canal has to offer.
Visit the city of Perth, delve into its history by visiting the Perth Museum or enjoy a beer at the notorious Perth Brewery. In fact, the city was famous during the Prohibition era for its underground distillers who produced the sought-after 'moonshine', so you can be sure the locals know what they're doing!
Disembarkation is scheduled in the early morning after breakfast.
The itinerary may be subject to variations based on weather conditions, safety conditions and the technical assessments of the captain of the boat. This program is intended as indicative and not binding.
