Day 1: Check-In
Check-in from 5 pm on Saturday at the beautiful Gothenburg Marina. Located 30 km from the Landvetter International Airport, it is easily reachable by taxi or by bus and offers all kinds of services. Gothenburg is a town with a strong marine culture you will breath as soon as you arrive, and represents the best access gateway to the wonderful archipelago extending to the west of the Swedish coasts. After the technical check-in and a short presentation of the boat, you can take your seat in the cabins and board the galley before setting sail.
We set sail from Gothenburg towards the near Marstrand Island (19 nm): one of the most precious treasuries of the Swedish archipelago, with its little town that lives from fishing and herring trade. Famous for being the most important sailing centre on the western coast, every year it hosts the Swedish Match Cup. You will be astounded by the Carlstens Fortress, dating back to 1658, standing out on the island with its majestic walls that touch the horizon.
After breakfast, we set sail for a nice navigation to the north (20 nm) and arrive on the Island of Gullholmen. The most western island of the Bohuslän Archipelago is also one of the most suggestive fishing villages on the coast. Built on the rocks, it will welcome you with its lovely alleys among the little and colorful wooden houses overlooking the clear and blue water of the canal.
We proceed through the archipelago, where you will be enchanted by the wild nature of granitic coasts smoothed and carved by the sea, surrounded by green pine forests and little fishing villages. We will then arrive in Hunnebostrand (19 nm), one of the most ancient coastal cities of Bohuslän, famous Swedish touristic location dating back to the 13th century. Here you will find super beautiful beaches and a lively town where you can spend a nice evening.
We head south to reach Käringön Island (19 nm) and its typical fishing village surrounded by a fairytale landscape. Walking from the port towards the lighthouse, you can admire the little red houses of the fishermen, with their boathouses and lovely gardens, unaltered from the 20th century. Käringön Island is also famous for its oyster farms, where you can taste the different qualities with a glass of good white wine.
Through a short navigation (7 nm) you will reach the little Åstol Island (7nm): rocky and with few inhabitants, it is part of the Tjörn municipality, which includes a hundred islands and is accessible only by boat or ferry. The main attraction of the island is the famous Åstol Rökeri Restaurant with its smokehouse, where you can try the local fish specialities and spend a nice evening with live music.
We head for Gotenburg (20 nm) and the end of our tour. Along the route, half way, you can stop for a visit on the beautiful Hypeln Island, where you can also fill your fuel and gas tanks. Return to the Marina at 18:00 with overnight stay in the port included. After you will have time to visit the town and also rent a small motor boat to explore the canals and eat in one of the little restaurants in the port: the perfect conclusion for this unforgettable holiday.
Day 8: Check-out
Disembarkation is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
The itinerary may be subject to variations based on weather conditions, safety conditions and the technical assessments of the captain of the boat. This program is intended as indicative and not binding.
Don't miss a visit to the typical fishmarket 'Feskekörka', a walk throught the alleys in the Haga city center, taking a break in one of the typical cafes tastying the swedish cuisine. Magasinsgatan is the shopping and night life district, insted for history lovers we suggest a visit to the Älvsborg or Skansen Kronan fortresses. Sweden will offer you the opportunity to see fabled landscapes surrounded by unpolluted nature; if you are a flora and fauna addicted, you have to spend some time inside the Trädgårdsföreningen (bothanical garden) or in the Universeum.
